ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Jaguars 2023 Training Camp continued Thursday.
It was the 17th day of the second training camp under Head Coach Doug Pederson, featuring a practice in shorts and shells against the Detroit Lions at the Lions’ training facility. Each day throughout camp, four members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and team reporter Kainani Stevens – will share an observation.
Here are Thursday’s “campservations” from the joint practice:
John Oehser, Jaguars Senior Writer…
The players practiced without full pads, but that cut down only a little on the intensity – and the chippiness – on the second and final day of joint practices between the Jaguars and Lions Thursday. After several post-play altercations Wednesday, there were at least two more Thursday. After a second hard tackle by the Lions defense in a short sequence Thursday, Jaguars offensive players and Lions defensive player ran toward each other from both sidelines. Order was restored soon enough. That was pretty much the highlight on a day when the Lions’ offense had better success against the Jaguars’ defense than the day before. Also for the Jaguars: Veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley continued to have consistent success, as was the case Wednesday and has been the case throughout training camp.
Brian Sexton, Jaguars Senior Correspondent …
Thursday was supposed to be a quiet day at the Jaguars’ joint practice with the Lions. They weren’t in full pads and the intensity level was expected to come down somewhat from a pretty chippy session on Wednesday. There was still an edge, mostly from players who didn’t have great film to watch on Wednesday evening, but it was a mirror image of the practice the day before. Some good, some bad, plenty to work on before the regular season. The best news was no one left the field injured after a couple of Jaguars players went down on Wednesday.
