U.S. District Court Judge Henry Wingate has approved an order to transfer control of the Jackson sewer system to Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin. On Monday, Wingate signed the order naming Henifin, who has been over the city’s drinking water system since November 2022, the new manager of Jackson’s sewer. Henifin will now be responsible for managing, operating, and maintaining the city’s sewer and water system. Last week, officials with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Justice Department, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), and the City of Jackson agreed to put the order into place in an effort to expedite sewer system…

U.S. District Court Judge Henry Wingate signed an order taking control of the city’s sewer system and placing it under Henifin, the interim third-party manager. The order took effect immediately, with the judge initially doing away with the 30-day comment period included in the proposed order filed last week. However, Wingate later agreed to leave the 30-day comment period in place. The decision means Henifin is now in charge of the sewer per the stipulated order, but Wingate is willing to make changes to that order based on comments received by the EPA and U.S. Department of Justice prior to…

The chief of US Naval operations Admiral Michael Gilday was recently reported from Washington as saying the US shipyards are only producing subs at a rate of about 1.2 a year. He says a minimum of two a year is needed to fill the Navy’s own requirements. Until then, he said, “We’re not going to be in a position to sell any to the Australians”. A senior Biden advisor, Kurt Campbell added there was also “a troublingly large number of submarines in drydock that needed to be back into the water quickly”. If Albanese were genuinely a good friend of…

Brandon Presley will be the only Democratic candidate for Mississippi governor on the Aug. 8 primary ballot and thus the party’s de facto nominee after the Mississippi Supreme Court reversed a lower court’s order to place another candidate, Bob Hickingbottom, on the ballot. In February, Hickingbottom filed qualifying papers to run as a Democrat for governor, but the party informed him that it had declined to certify his candidacy on Feb. 17 after Democrat Jim Newman challenged his candidacy. The party cited his failure to submit a statement of economic interest in past elections when he ran as a Constitution Party candidate. Hickingbottom filed…

The cost of filling your gas tank has stalled, on average, over the last month, despite efforts by world powers to drive it higher. Weeks after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries announced a cut to oil production intended to drive profit higher for oil-producing countries, retail gas prices have yet to budge. A gallon of gas was $3.58 on average, according to AAA gas price data. Stacker compiled statistics on gas prices in Mississippi. Gas prices are as of June 23. At least one oil and gas executive is warning, however, that a stagnation in domestic oil production nationwide currently playing out…

Rattlesnake encounters are rare, but it’s that time of year when they become more likely in Southern California. Warmer and dry weather means more people outside, many of whom are enjoying the region’s hiking trails. Spring is also the time when rattlesnakes become more active after what can be months of solitude and inactivity during cool winter weather. Most bites occur between April and October, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, so we are well into rattlesnake season. And while bites are a concern, rattlesnakes also contribute to healthy biodiversity and help keep the country’s small rodent population…

According to a groundbreaking new report by the Common Sense Institute Arizona (CSI), Arizona’s manufacturing industry is on fire, with a staggering $77.6 billion in sales for 2022, up almost 40% from 2017. At this point, it seems highly unlikely that Lamar Jackson will land with the Patriots. His future with the Baltimore Ravens still is up in the air, but a marriage between New England and the superstar quarterback feels like a major longshot. Things felt quite differently a few weeks ago, though. Jackson, free to speak with other teams while under the non-exclusive franchise tag, went public with a trade request. Hours later, Patriots owner Robert Kraft claimed rapper Meek Mill told him that Jackson wanted to play in New England. A wild few days ensued, with multiple credible reporters shutting down the Jackson-Patriots talk. New England…
