Slovakia handed over the first four MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia Yaroslav Nad.
“The first four MiG-29 fighters have been safely handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and have already left the territory of the Slovak Republic,” he wrote on Facebook.
The transfer was carried out by Ukrainian pilots, in agreement with the Slovak Air Force.
Nad noted that Slovakia is on the right side, and with this gesture the country has inscribed itself in modern world history.
“We are doing the right thing, because it is Russia that invaded Ukraine, it is Russia that is on Ukrainian territory, and it is Russia that, having withdrawn its troops, will immediately end the war,” the defense minister said.
On March 9, Slovak Defense Minister Yaroslav Nagy reported that the country officially agreed, together with Poland, to send “surplus” MiG-29 aircraft from both countries to Ukraine. In total, Poland is going to transfer 10 such aircraft to Kyiv.
On March 17, the Slovak government approved the transfer of 13 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
