Following the Europeans’ dominant victory over the United States at the 2023 Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour FedExCup Fall returns for its second of seven events — the 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship. As a reminder, the FedExCup Fall provides an opportunity for players who finished between Nos. 51-125 in the FedExCup standings to continue accumulating points for a spot in full-field events and THE PLAYERS Championship next season. Additionally, winners receive a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, 500 FedExCup points, and an invite to major championships that field PGA Tour winners. This year marks the Tour’s 10th trip to the Country Club of Jackson for the Sanderson Farms Championship. Located in Jackson, Mississippi, the course was founded in 1914 but underwent extensive renovations in 2008, led by John Fought.
Being the second event of the fall swing, the 156-man field for the Sanderson Farms Championship is unsurprisingly underwhelming. Only four of the top 60 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are teeing it up this week — Emiliano Grillo (No. 36), Tom Hoge (No. 50), Lee Hodges (No. 53), and Lucas Herbert (No. 57). Ludvig Aberg, fresh off a splendid performance at the Ryder Cup, headlines the field for his eighth start on the PGA Tour. The 23-year-old Swede now sits 80th in the OWGR after his win at the DP World Tour’s Omega European Masters in early September.
