Turkey donations to be collected for the Mississippi Food Network and statewide food pantries at area Kroger stores.

Alpha Media Jackson, and the Mississippi Food Network will once again collect turkeys for Mississippi families in need on Thursday, November 16 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Turkeys may be donated in-person at the Kroger stores on I-55 in Jackson, Highway 80 in Clinton, Highway 51 in Madison, and Spillway in Brandon.

Donations may also be made at the checkout of any Kroger store in the metro area and virtual donations can be made online at WAPT.com using this link.

“As the cost of living continues to climb nationwide, the generosity of neighbors is more vital than ever,” said President and General Manager Peter Keith. “A warm meal not only replenishes the body, it replenishes hope, and I encourage all our viewers to help make sure no family goes hungry this holiday season.”

16 WAPT News will broadcast live from donation drop-offs throughout the event. The event will also broadcast feature live remote radio broadcasts courtesy of radio partners Alpha Media Jackson.

Mississippi Food Network works with more than 430 partner agencies to help distribute food statewide. According to MFN, “almost 1 in 6 Mississippians — about 480,600 people — don’t have enough to eat. More than 1 in 5 children (18.8%) go to bed hungry most nights. Stomachs are growling all over the state. Hunger is a problem all across America. But in Mississippi, it’s practically an epidemic.”

“1 in 8 of Mississippi’s seniors (12.6%) experience regular shortfalls in food. It would take almost $300 million to meet the food needs of every hungry person in our state.”
