Jackson held the groundbreaking ceremony for its first men’s homeless shelter on April 19 along with the second groundbreaking of a new senior center the following day. Both facilities will be the first of their kind that the city has had in decades. Located on McCorry Street, a project three years in the making has broken ground in a monumental effort to care for the male unhoused population. Once the construction management contract was approved during the January city council meeting, design plans began. The groundbreaking came to fruition as a result of the work of a multi-entity collaboration between…

Wagner PMC financier Yevgeny Prigozhin denied the Kremlin’s claims that Russia is at war with NATO in Ukraine, and also questioned the existence of “Nazis” in Ukraine, which the Russian authorities constantly talk about. This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War ( ISW ). Analysts say the Wagner PMC founder has toned down his rhetoric about the Russian Defense Ministry, likely out of fear of completely losing his mercenary forces in Bakhmut. He also “denied the Kremlin’s claims that Russia is at war with NATO in Ukraine, and questioned whether there really are “Nazis” in Ukraine, as the…

With stockpiles of Soviet-era weapons, Bulgaria, which has a significant arms industry, could be a key ally of Ukraine, trained and equipped with just such weapons in a war following an invasion by Russian forces. However, considering that the parliament is now dissolved ahead of the vote on April 2nd, i.e. the fifth early election in two years amid political uncertainty, the interim government appointed by pro-Kremlin President Rumen Radev is not in the mood to provide that kind of help to Kyiv, the Radio editorial office writes . Jackson’s water manager is denouncing a bill that would place Jackson’s water system under the control of a nine-member authority, saying the effort is nothing more than a money grab. On Tuesday, S.B. 2889 passed out of a Senate committee, setting it up for a vote on the Senate floor. The measure, called the Mississippi Capitol Region Utility Act, would create a public utility district “separate and distinct from the city of Jackson to assume ownership, management, and control over the water system currently owned by the city.” If passed, the legislation will transfer the control of Jackson’s water, sewer,…

JEA bills could be going up again — but it might not be by much. A planned rate increase for this spring might be offset by a lower fuel cost. JEA is also learning that the planned nuclear power plant in Georgia it’s investing in is delayed again — and that could end up costing more. Plus, the CEO of the utility is getting a raise. All of that was discussed Tuesday during the JEA Board of Directors’ monthly meeting. The board voted during the meeting to have a rate hearing next month because it plans to raise the cost…

The Golden Triangle Development LINK, the Mississippi Development Authority, and…

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Mississippi Economic Council’s annual Capital Day helps elevate the business community’s voices. And their ideas are among those that politicians take into consideration each session. It’s not often that so many industries from across the state gather together in Jackson. But Capital Day gives them the chance to network with those creating policies that have a direct effect on what they do. “It’s got to be a public and private sector cooperation,” explained current MEC Chair Martin Williams. “That’s really the most important thing for us to be able to reach our potential…our fullest potential.”…

STARKVILLE – Highs and lows. Ups and downs. A basketball season is long and filled with peaks and valleys. For Mississippi State, the last three games have illustrated how adversity is virtually inevitable as the schedule rolls along. MSU began the season with 11 straight wins. The Dawgs have since dropped three in a row. That leaves State incredibly hungry to get back on the winning track starting with Saturday’s 1 p.m. matchup against instate rival Ole Miss at Humphrey Coliseum. “I know everyone’s disappointed with our last few games,” MSU head coach Chris Jans said. “Nobody is more disappointed…
